First there were boot cut jeans, then the skinny jeans, then the ripped jeans and now the mullet hem jeans. We are using the word mullet again. Yes I know it’s hard to believe that we use the word mullet again after the short at the front and long at the back (high low) dresses, skirts started to vanish few seasons ago. Fashion month was exciting all of us were waiting to see new trends, it gives us the chance to see trends in a new light. We saw that some of the mini trends are back in the recent shows at New York, London, Milan and Paris during fashion weeks.  We saw mullet jeans are back in trend and British Vogue confirmed that in their august issue.

Another thrilling thing is they’ll draw attention to your ankles the slimmest part of your leg. It lengthen your pins and if you wanted another reason to try them, the extra little cut out highlights your most astonishing pair of heels or ankle boots. Yes shoe lovers that’s an exciting news, you can show-off your shoes a little bit more and ankle boots are back in trend but mullet haircuts are still out. We’ll talk about trendy ankle boots in another post, keep in touch.

  • Lay the jean flat, use the pen to mark new hem to be. Front is shorter than the back, you will want to have about 1 to 1 ½ inches between the front and the back hem. Pin across marked lines.

  • Once the jeans are marked and pinned try them on to make sure you like where the new hem will lie on your legs. If you don’t like you can re-pin, nothing is permanent until you start cutting. You will be fraying the hem so keep a little extra for this effect.

  • When you are happy with the length lay them flat and cut up the inseam and hem the jeans, first on the front side, then on the back. To get the frayed fringed hem use the seam ripper. This might go slow but it’ll start going a lot faster after you get used to it.

  • Fringe will continue to wear and distress naturally as you wear them, but if you want to keep the fringe exactly how you have it, lightly line the top of the fraying with a clear nail polish top coat and let dry!
